Teach A Man To Fish facilitates UNESCO e-conference on ICT for vocational education and training

This month Teach A Man To Fish is excited to be facilitating the UNESCO-UNEVOC e-forum’s virtual conference on the ICT revolution for Technical and Vocational Education & Training (or TVET).

The conference is running from the 14th to the 28th of May and already over 200 members have signed up and are participating online.

The theme of the conference is: “what are the implications of the ICT revolution for TVET”? and aims to explore ICTs as a tool for increasing the reach and effectiveness of TVET worldwide, and will look to identify how mobile, online and multimedia learning can best be used to complement or even replace traditional TVET Centre based education.

As we are all no doubt aware, recent years have seen an explosion in the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) which have come to play an increasingly important role in multiple aspects of our lives, yet this change has been so rapid and exponential that traditional models of education are only just starting to catch up and seek ways to best use these technologies for the benefit of learners.

From radio and video resources through to Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), high-quality educational materials from across the world are being made available for free to many thousands of users, often for the first time. While it is early to be able to tell exactly what impact these trends will have on TVET in the long term, it is clear that ICT is an emerging force in TVET which, if managed in a pro-poor and pro-equality way, has the potential to transform technical and vocational education.

UNESCO-UNEVOC is calling for e-Forum members and the global TVET community to share their experiences and success stories in utilizing ICTs in TVET. All inputs into the discussion will be synthesized and summarized into a report, which will provide directions for future research and programme work in this field.

You can sign up for the conference at:  http://www.unevoc.unesco.org/

So get involved, and have your say!  See you online!
