Nicaragua: A new academic year has started at La Bastilla Technical Centre for Agriculture & Tourism!

On February 10th 2014, the new academic year started at La Bastilla Technical School. Out of the forty-five students that are studying at the school we have eleven 1st year students  getting acquainted with the “learning by doing” educational model. However they are already making a fantastic impression, as they are proactive and eager to learn more about agriculture and hands-on practices!

In the meantime, the fourteen 3rd year students are taking on more responsibility in the production areas. They are now monitors and therefore explain duties, tasks, record-keeping and general procedures to the new students and make sure that the 2nd year students are following their lead.

Aside from the students and teachers, there are some other important family members in the limelight. They are the chickens, the cows, the pigs and the vegetables! In February we welcomed some new family members, as one of the pigs gave birth to 10 piglets and one of our cows gave birth to a new calf! In addition, we have started with the strawberry harvest! Below you can see some pictures:

We are looking forward to supporting them throughout this year and celebrating their successes!
