School Enterprise Challenge goes from strength to strength in Uganda!

After a successful competition last year, The School Enterprise Challenge 2014 has launched in Uganda, and our Field Officers Jenny and Fran have been busy delivering business planning and development workshops to teachers from across the country.

Uganda: The chickens arrive at Mackay Memorial College!

After much planning and preparation for the Egg's Business, the chickens have finally arrived at our partner school, Mackay Memorial College! The teachers and students are now extremely excited to be looking after the much-discussed chicks. Over the last couple of weeks, the teachers bought the final equipment needed for the chicken house, including disinfectant, overalls, feeds and coal and clay pots for heating the chicken house.

After months of busy planning and preparation, the School Enterprise Challenge team launched the competition last Thursday. 2013 was an amazing year and there is so much to look forward to in 2014!

Rwanda: Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) members ready to start business schools after successful completion of training

140 Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) members from 28 schools of Nyaruguru district eagerly embraced the message of the GEC/ REAP Project. Business schools and Mother Daughter Clubs (MDCs) also expressed emotions of how essential it is to local communities and the schools. Teach A Man To Fish staff in Rwanda, in collaboration with Health Poverty Action (HPA), built capacity, and each school has been represented by five members of their PTA.

Last year was an amazing year for the School Enterprise Challenge, 1000 schools from 80 countries resistered for the competition.

Uganda: Business Planning with Kutamba Primary School

Last weekend, our Field Officers, Jenny and Fran travelled to Kutamba Primary School in Rukungiri District to deliver a workshop on Business Planning.  Kutamba Primary Schools is run by the Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project, an organization set up by Twesigye Kaguri, author of “The price of stones; building a school in my village”. The students at Kutamba , the majority of whom are orphans, have been selected from families from the local area who have been effected by the HIV/AIDS crisis that has plagued the area.

Nicaragua: A new academic year has started at La Bastilla Technical Centre for Agriculture & Tourism!

On February 10th 2014, the new academic year started at La Bastilla Technical School. Out of the forty-five students that are studying at the school we have eleven 1st year students  getting acquainted with the “learning by doing” educational model.

Uganda: Meet two students from the Mackay Troupe!

Kenedy Bulega and Ignatius Tumusiime are both in Senior 6 (the final year of high school) at Mackay Memorial College and are active members of the Mackay Troupe. As they will soon be graduating from school, Teach A Man To Fish took the opportunity to interview them about their experiences in the troupe.
